Serving in a church can be a daunting task, especially if you’re in a role that doesn’t suit your abilities. You find yourself fitting that role the way a square peg fits in a round hole. Some folks know exactly what their strengths are and what they are gifted to do, yet there are others out there who are still trying to figure that out. Don’t worry, we’ll help you find a ministry that best matches your unique abilities.
Finding the best place for us to serve really boils down to understanding who we are. Once we understand who we are, we’ll know better what we should be. God gave each of us a unique personality, talents, spiritual gifts, and all kinds of experiences. He wants us to use these resources for the benefit of others. By serving others, we serve God, and we should serve Him with style just like He made us.

What is ministry?

Ministry is using whatever God has given you to serve the needs of others. In doing so, you serve God and your church family. You’ll minister to people in three areas of need: physical, emotional, and spiritual.

One thing to always remember is that the purpose of ministry is to strengthen and encourage the people in your church family, but most importantly, to help people find their way back to God. The hard truth is that ministry is not selfish, so you’ll have to check your ego at the door.

How do I discover my ministry?

It takes dedication and discipline to discover your ministry. It’s easy to fall into the trap of filling a ministry role because it looks appealing, but the simple truth is that we don’t necessarily fit certain roles no matter how cool we think they are.

We need to evaluate our abilities, learn what our spiritual gifts are, and develop those abilities and gifts to become fully equipped for a specific ministry. The toughest part is eliminating any competing priorities that may throw us off course. The great thing is you’re not going to do this alone.
